William Thieman, has been cultivating students into vital members of the community for the past 35 years. During this time he has taught a total of 10 different courses at VC, including the science teacher training program and the biotechnology training program. Bill has also participated in several extracurricular programs, including the Educational Olympics and the Ecology Action Club, which started the first recycling program on campus. The VC program was looked at as a model for the city's recycling program.

"Teaching is like an addiction. It's something you have to taper off," Thieman said.

Students and faculty will still be able to catch Thieman on campus next year, as he said he hopes to sign on part time to teach at least one class. The district budget is gaining nothing from Thieman's retirement, since his entire salary was covered by grant money last year. Thieman said he does not want the school to lose out on those funds and that he'll do what he can to work with the grant office on the matter. Thieman has been teaching here his whole career and said that if he does continue to teach part time it will be more on his own terms.
